Wegovy Switching FAQ

As a SheMed member, how would I switch to Wegovy from Mounjaro? Your questions answered.
We know the recent news about Mounjaro price changes has caused concern across our community. For many of our members, this treatment has been life-changing, and we understand how worrying it can feel when change is put in front of you. That’s why we’ve created this guide to explain what’s happening, what your options are, and most importantly, how SheMed will support you every step of the way.
1. Why is this happening?
From 1st September, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, Eli Lilly, has increased the cost of the medication across the UK. This decision was not made by SheMed and, like you, we are frustrated and disappointed. However, we want to make sure that rising prices don’t stop your progress. That’s why we’ve worked hard to secure safe and affordable alternatives for you.
2. What does this mean for me?
You now have two choices:
- Stay on Mounjaro at the new price
- Switch to Wegovy for a static price of £159 for all doses. Your first pen will be just £99, including a free Side Effect Care Package to give you confidence from the start.
Whichever option you choose, your care will continue without interruption.
3. How do I make the switch?
When completing your next refill, you’ll just need to answer a few short questions about your Mounjaro journey, what dose you’ve been taking, how well you tolerated it, and any side effects. Based on your answers, our clinicians will recommend whether to start Wegovy at the lowest dose or a comparable dose.
4. What does clinical guidance say on switching between medications?
Currently, there are no published studies telling us exactly what Wegovy dose is right when switching from Mounjaro. Our guidance is based on expert consensus and real-world experience:
- If you tolerated Mounjaro well, you may be able to switch straight to a comparable Wegovy dose (for example, 2.5mg or 5mg Mounjaro to 0.5mg Wegovy, or 10mg Mounjaro to 1mg Wegovy).
- If you experienced moderate or severe side effects, we recommend starting lower at the lowest Wegovy dose of 0.25mg Wegovy and titrating gradually. This will minimise the chance of side effects.
There’s no need for a long break; you can start Wegovy one week after your last Mounjaro dose, so that there will be no interruption to your journey.
5. What is a suitable switching dose?
When switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy, you can usually keep your regular weekly injection schedule and just leave a 7-day gap between your last Mounjaro dose and your first Wegovy dose.

6. What happens if I switch?
If you decide to switch to Wegovy, You’ll receive your first Wegovy pen at the special price of £99, plus a Side Effect Care Package. Our clinicians will continue to review your progress, support you with side effect management, and adjust your dose if needed.
7. How will this impact my progress and side effects?
Both Mounjaro and Wegovy belong to the GLP-1 family, so your body is already familiar with how they work. If you tolerate Mounjaro well, switching to a comparable dose of Wegovy means you can continue your progress without losing momentum. If you experience side effects, starting lower gives your body a safer path forward.
Side effects may differ slightly, as every medication works a little differently, but our personalised dosing, side effect care package, and check-ins are there to make sure you’re never alone.
