What the New STEER Study Means for You

When new research is released, it can sometimes feel like a lot of numbers and medical terms. At SheMed, we want you to know what it really means for you and your health.

Novo Nordisk has just shared results from the STEER study, looking at how GLP-1 medicines impact heart health in people living with overweight or obesity and existing cardiovascular disease (but without diabetes).

The big picture

The study compared Wegovy (semaglutide) with another GLP-1 medicine, tirzepatide (Mounjaro).

Researchers looked at the risk of serious heart events, such as heart attack, stroke, or death from heart disease.

What they found

  • For people who stayed on treatment without big gaps, Wegovy reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death by 57% compared with tirzepatide (Mounjaro).
  • For all people treated, including those with breaks in care, Wegovy still showed a 29% overall reduction in these serious heart events.

Why this matters to you

This study shows that GLP-1 medicines are not just about weight. They can also support wider health, especially heart health, for those already living with cardiovascular disease.

It also highlights why sticking with your treatment long-term is so important. Staying consistent brings the biggest benefits.

The SheMed view

We believe your health is about the whole picture. Medication is powerful, but it is most effective when combined with good nutrition, regular movement, quality sleep, and ongoing support.

The STEER study is a reminder that GLP-1 medicines can improve more than just weight. They can also play an important role in protecting your heart.

At SheMed, we take this further with regular blood tests throughout your journey. These not only keep you safe, but also track important markers such as cholesterol, blood sugar, and liver health, showing how your body is improving from the inside out.

Together with your weight journey, this is proof that you are not just losing weight. You are gaining health and protecting your future. Staying engaged long-term means every step is an investment in a stronger, healthier you.
