Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy
We know this is one of the biggest questions on your mind. The good news: for most people, yes, it is safe to switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy, provided it is done with the right clinical guidance and support.
Why switching can be safe
They belong to the same family
Both Mounjaro and Wegovy are GLP-1 receptor agonists. That means your body is already familiar with how they work: slowing digestion, regulating appetite, and supporting weight loss. Because of this, switching is not like starting an entirely new type of treatment.
Your body has already adapted
If you have been taking Mounjaro for weeks or months, your system has already adjusted to GLP-1 medication. This helps reduce the risk of side effects when moving to Wegovy.
No need for a long break
There is no requirement for a long break when switching between the medications. With the correct switching dose, you can start Wegovy just seven days after your last dose of Mounjaro, so your treatment is not disrupted.
Switching to Wegovy explained
You do not always need to restart on the very lowest dose of Wegovy. If you have had minimal or no side effects, you may be able to begin on a higher dose to keep your progress moving.

- Your current Mounjaro dose
- How well you have tolerated treatment so far
- Your results to date
If you tolerated Mounjaro well (no or mild side effects)
You may switch directly to a comparable Wegovy dose.
If you experienced severe side effects on Mounjaro
You may be advised to restart at the lowest Wegovy dose (0.25 mg).

You can usually follow your normal weekly injection schedule, leaving a 7-day gap between your last Mounjaro dose and your first Wegovy dose.

- Mounjaro 7.5 mg → Wegovy 0.5 mg
- Mounjaro 10 mg → Wegovy 1 mg
- Mounjaro 12.5 mg → Wegovy 1 mg
- Mounjaro 15 mg → Wegovy 1 mg
