SheMed Clinical Study: Closing the Women's Health Gap

Our initial SheMed Programme is more than just a weight loss solution—it’s an active clinical study exploring how this medication can help address key women’s health conditions. While we’re no longer accepting new participants, the study continues to deliver vital insights into bridging the gap in women’s health research.

What's the women's health research gap?

1% of all healthcare research funding in the UK is allocated to female-specific health conditions (Source).

The women's health research gap refers to the significant lack of studies and data focused specifically on health conditions that disproportionately or exclusively affect women. Historically, medical research has centred on male subjects, often overlooking the unique biological, hormonal, and social factors that influence women’s health. This has led to delays in diagnosis, misdiagnosis, and a lack of effective treatments for conditions like PCOS, endometriosis, menopause, and autoimmune disorders.

Closing this gap is crucial. It is not just about equality-it's about improving health outcomes, advancing treatments, and ensuring that women receive the care and attention they deserve.

What research is SheMed doing?

SheMed is exploring how weight loss treatments may benefit women’s health in broader, more impactful ways. Beyond weight loss, we’re examining the potential of these medications to address specific women’s health conditions, including PCOS, endometriosis, menopause symptoms, and other areas that remain under-researched.

More details around our study

When will the results of the study be available?

Our clinical study began in December 2024, and our founding members will be participating in the programme for 12 months. Once the programme is complete in early 2026, we expect to have valuable data to share. This will provide insights into the use of weight loss medications in women’s health, helping to educate and shape future treatment approaches.

What do you hope to achieve with this study?

Our goal is to generate clear evidence and actionable insights on how weight loss medications can not only support weight loss, but also address specific women’s health issues. This study could be a pivotal step in transforming healthcare for women, bridging the longstanding gap in care and treatment compared to other medical areas.

Can I join the programme?

Unfortunately, all the spaces for our clinical study are full and important research is currently being conducted. We hope to have other opportunities in the future to offer our members.

How can I help the cause?

You can help by raising awareness about the disparities in women’s healthcare and advocating for more research in this area. Sharing knowledge, speaking out, and supporting the cause can drive change and accelerate progress in women's health.
