MHRA Approves Orforglipron (Foundayo), No-Restriction Pill

The MHRA has approved orforglipron, sold under the brand name Foundayo, for weight management and type 2 diabetes. The approval was granted today, 10 August 2026, making the UK the first country in Europe to license this medicine.
Orforglipron is a once-daily oral GLP-1 pill developed by Eli Lilly, the same company behind Mounjaro. Unlike the Wegovy pill, it comes with no food, water, or timing restrictions. There's no fasting window and no need to wait before eating or drinking. You take it whenever suits you, whether that's with your morning coffee, at lunch, or before bed. This is possible because orforglipron is a small molecule rather than a peptide, so it survives digestion without needing a special carrier or strict dosing protocol.
It is authorised for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to 30 with at least one weight-related health condition. It is also authorised to improve blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes that is not well managed.
In its Phase 3 trial, people without diabetes lost an average of 12.4% of body weight at 72 weeks on the highest dose. As with all GLP-1 medicines, it carries a boxed warning around thyroid C-cell tumours and is not suitable for anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.
Our approach at SheMed has always been to offer the latest approved medications, because we believe women deserve choice in their treatment. Orforglipron has only just been authorised, and the approval landed within the last few hours, so this is what we know right now. We're working through what it means for our treatment options, including timelines, pricing, and eligibility, and will share updates as soon as we have them confirmed.
